Working with the Pharmaceutical Industry
Department of Health Guidance encourages NHS organisations and their staff to consider opportunities for joint working with the pharmaceutical industry, where there are clear advantages to patient care and improvements to patients’ health and well-being.
In the past, contact between the Pharmaceutical Industry and primary health care professionals has revolved around the purchase or promotion of specific products and the provision of sponsorship e.g. to support educational events or training. More recently, the Industry has begun to focus on enhancing its links with the NHS.
The Practice will only enter in to joint working arrangements with the Pharmaceutical Industry which are mutually beneficial, with the principal beneficiary being the patient. It is essential that all projects or dealings with the Industry are open and transparent and are subject to the widest scrutiny.
The Practice will keep a register of any joint working with the Pharmaceutical Industry and make it available on this web-site.
Stroke Prevention in Atrial Fibrillation Bayer funded Apoldi Ltd to employ nursing and medical staff to provide specialist clinics at our surgery. They reviewed patients who are diagnosed with a condition called Atrial Fibrillation and looked at those that could potentially benefit from anticoagulation therapy. They provided education and advice to patients about the condition and made recommendations to the GP’s regarding treatment.
Leeds West CCG have a policy for Joint working with the Pharmaceutical Industry which the Practice used as a reference to create this policy.
